Electronic Arts made a big Star Wars Day announcement today.

EA Studios executive Patrick Soderlund revealed that EA is working with Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment on an “all-new third-person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.”

Respawn is also working on Titanfall 2, which is rumored to come out later this year. The company has also talked about branching out into the mobile game space some day.

The studio, founded by Call of Duty veterans Vince Zampella and Jason West, is the first external studio that EA is working with on new Star Wars games. EA-owned studios Capital Games, Visceral Games, DICE, BioWare, and Motive are also currently working on Star Wars projects.

“Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Vince Zampella and his group,” Soderlund said. “Their obsession with making games that feel amazing has helped make Titanfall one of the most successful new game launches of this generation.”

Development on Respawn’s new Star Wars game is being led by God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen, who joined Respawn in 2014. There are no further details available at this stage about the title, but Soderlund said he’s excited to see what Respawn can do with the combination of the developer’s “great attention to gameplay with the power of Star Wars.”

Asmussen also published a blog post about this announcement in which he says the opportunity to work on a Star Wars game is the “chance of a lifetime.”

“I have been playing Star Wars games my whole life, now I get to make a Star Wars game,” he said. “On top of that, I get to do it at Respawn, a studio comprised of the most talented collection of game makers, creators, visionaries, and (most importantly) advocates for the player, that I have had the good fortune to work with. And we, like you all, have no shortage of Star Wars passion. The entire company erupted in cheers when it was announced that this would be our next endeavor.

He went on to stress that Respawn’s new game will honor the Star Wars legacy.

“But it’s not all fun and games–we promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet. Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics. Moving forward, we couldn’t ask for a better universe in which to continue this journey, and although.”

Asmussen said he wishes he could share more information about Respawn’s new Star Wars game and understands if this initial announcement today isn’t all that exciting.

“Now, I understand on the surface this might sound a bit dry, but developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within,” he said. “We have already planted the seeds by assembling a small, but incredibly talented team, ready for the amazing journey that lies ahead.”

EA has said multiple Battlefront sequels are in development, which will presumably be developed by DICE. As for Motive’s new Star Wars game, development on the unannounced project is being led by former Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond.

Capital Games is working on free-to-play game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, while BioWare continues to work on Star Wars: The Old Republic. As for Visceral Games, it’s rumored the studio is making an open-world Star Wars title, though this is not confirmed. Former Uncharted writer/director Amy Hennig is working on this project.
